None of this is required to reach us, but four things let the shop scope a gate from a phone or a message instead of waiting on a site visit. The opening width matters most of anything on this list: it decides whether the gate can be a cantilever or has to swing, how much steel goes into the leaf, and how big an operator has to be to move it.

The clear opening width
Measured post to post, not fence line to fence line. This is the single measurement everything else gets sized around.

What has to get through it
A pickup, a stock trailer, a tractor, a delivery truck. What has to pass through the gap sets how wide and how tall it really needs to be.

Whether there is power at the opening
Tells us in one line if an automatic operator is realistic now or if that is a second phase of the job.
